Welcome to the UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital / Inverness Ambulatory Surgery Center Shadowing Program!
UCHealth is proud of the excellent care we provide to our patients and values the opportunity to educate future clinical, administrative, and research leaders. This program allows you to observe health care professionals in action, learn about hospital operations, and gain insight into quality and innovation in patient care.
Please review the information below carefully before applying. Our Shadowing Program is designed to provide astructured, educational experiencewhile maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, security, and privacy.
Program Highlights

Shadowing is limited to 12 hours annually per applicant.

Applicants must be 18 years or older to participate.

This is an educational experience only - no hands-on patient interaction or case advising is permitted.

Shadowing is voluntary and cannot be used for school credit.

It is the applicant's responsibility to coordinate dates/times with their sponsor before applying.
Note:Shadowing in the Operating Rooms is suspended until March 2026 due to department capacity and onboarding needs.
Shadowing Application Process
Step 1: Find a Sponsor
If you do not already have a sponsor:

Visit uchealth.org.

Scroll to Patient Support (bottom of the page) and search for a doctor, location, or specialty.

Contact the provider or department directly to inquire about shadowing opportunities and confirm who your sponsor will be.
Step 2: Coordinate Details
Work with your sponsor to finalize:

Date(s) of shadowing
-
Location
-
Start and end times
You must have this information confirmed before submitting your application.
Step 3: Gather Required Documents
Prepare to upload the following with your application:

Valid photo ID (Driver's License, Passport, State ID, or Visa)

Immunization records for MMR, Tdap, and Varicella (or titer results)

Proof of a negative TB test within the past year

Seasonal flu vaccine record (required if shadowing October-May)
UCHealth employees: You are exempt from providing health records except for proof of flu vaccination and employee ID.
Step 4: Submit the Application

Complete the online application form carefully and attach all required documents.

Include your confirmed shadowing date(s) and time(s)in the application.

Incomplete submissions will delay processing.
Step 5: Sponsor Agreement
After submitting your application:

Your Sponsor will receive a confirmation email containing a Sponsor Agreement link.

The Sponsor Agreement must be completed at least 10 business days prior to the date of shadow.

It is your responsibility to ensure your sponsor completes the agreement.
Step 6: Receive Confirmation
Once approved, both you and your sponsor will receive a confirmation email with:

Instructions for picking up your shadowing badge.
- Guidance on where to check in and log your shadowing hours.
Additional Notes
- Applications must be submitted at least ten business days prior to the requested shadowing date.
- Failure to complete the process in time may result in a delay or denial of your request.
